VEGAS 2049

24 x 36 in. oil on canvas
K walks through the post-apocalyptic remains of Las Vegas searching for the truth.
There are many aspects that stick out to me when I think of Denis Villeneuve's sleeper masterpiece Blade Runner 2049. Each time I watch the film something else grabs my attention.
I recently stumbled across this theory surrounding the meanings of colors in the film. Yellow symbolizing clues to the truth and red symbolizing obstacles in K's investigation. Cinematographer Roger Deakins beautifully collides these two colors together in the pivotal Vegas scene when K is confronted with a major truth to the story that becomes an obstacle.
